2.3. Removing and Installing Apps

2.3.1. Introduction

You can control what apps are on your gateways by adding and removing them from your organization’s bundles.

2.3.2. Bundles

A bundle is a group of apps that are designated to be deployed to any gateways sharing associated tags that the bundle has. All Edge Direct accounts have a “default” bundle that applies to all gateways on the account. This means that all apps added to the default bundle will be added to all gateways on your Edge Direct account.

2.3.3. Apps

Each bundle has a list of apps that it tracks in specific channels. For more detail on how apps and channels work together, see Key Concepts.

2.3.4. Removing an App

To uninstall an app from your gateways, remove them from one or more of your organization’s bundles.

  1. Open the App bundles page of Edge Direct.
  2. Select the bundle to remove an app from.
  3. Click the Edit button in the top right corner.
  4. Click the trash can button next to each app you want to remove from the bundle.
  5. Click the Save button in the top right corner, and Save in the resulting modal.

If there are no connectivity issues with the relevant gateway, removal of an app happens within seconds.

Note

Removing the app from a bundle does not disassociate the app from your organization altogether. It only disassociates the app from the specified bundle. Other bundles that contain that app are not affected. You may still add the app to other bundles or back to the bundle you just removed it from.

2.3.5. Installing an App

Apps can similarly be installed onto gateways by adding them to one or more of your organization’s bundles.

  1. Open the App bundle detail view, and click the Edit button in the top right corner.
  2. Click the add an app button below the app list.
  3. Select the app you want to add to the bundle, and then select which channel of the app to associate.
  4. Click the Add button, then the Save button in the top right corner.

It will take a few minutes for an app to be fully installed on the gateways associated with the bundle. You can monitor the status of the the app installation on the Gateways page.

Select the Gateway and expand its Apps list. Refresh the browser page to update the view.

2.3.6. Conclusion

Installing and uninstalling apps from your gateways can be done by adding or removing them from your organization’s bundles.
